Once there were two Berlins, one city cut in half by a wall. We gave a talk to a group of inner city youth in Chicago and asked how many had heard about the Berlin Wall? None raised a hand.To quote Ronald Reagan: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction”. This year the world celebrates the demolition of a prison wall erected by a totalitarian state to keep its people inside. But walls continue to be built: Israel/Palestine, US/Mexico, North/South Korea, and many more. On the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall award winning photographer Kai Wiedenhöfer aims to illuminate the psychology of borders, to raise questions and probe our experiences.
